2007/2008 Goals

I’ve been considering whether or not I should do a New Year’s Resolutions post. And yes, I’m aware that it’s now January 7th. I actually decided against doing one, but now I’ve changed my mind. So here goes…

My resolutions for 2007 were:

  1. Be good to myself - make time every week to do something just for me.
  2. Make time for a fun family activity each week. (I amended this one to include efforts to strengthen/develop friendships.)
  3. Make one healthy lifestyle change a month.

Was I able to meet that goal every week/month? Not always, but in general I think I did well. Normally, I have very specific and structured New Year’s Resolutions…which somehow never get met and usually result in just raising my stress levels. I found that keeping them more open and tracking my accomplishments in my daily planner worked much better for me. Those resolutions were meant to help me learn to relax more, deal with stress better, and strengthen my connection with family and friends. It worked well for me and I’m pleased with the progress I made last year.

So I’m going to keep the same goals and format for this year.

As for my creative goals, I accomplished:

  • lace knitting
  • knitting cables
  • knitting a slip stitch project (easy way to do color work)
  • knitting hats
  • knitting in the round
  • knitting on double pointed needles
  • learning basic crochet
  • sewing on flat buttons

So my 2008 creative goals are (some of them are leftover goals):

  • knit socks
  • learn fair isle knitting
  • knit a sweater
  • knit a cardigan
  • knit and felt a tote bag/purse
  • knit a lace shawl
  • crochet a hat (I have a specific one in mind)
  • learn to use my sewing machine
  • sew two tote bags (the fabric was cut in 2006)
  • knit a clapotis
  • learn to quilt
  • quilt a pillow (materials purchased in 2007)
  • quilt a tote bag (materials purchased in 2007)
  • beaded jewelry (materials purchased in 2006 & 2007)
  • learn to play a simple song on the acoustic guitar
Yeah, it's going to be a busy year.

I like your goals Ruby--and they are very doable! I like to quilt, but I am not very good at it--it's too precise for me, and I am not always that precise :)

This is the first time in a long time I didn't make resolutions...I think because I lost 40+ lbs last year the whole "Lose weight" resolution has the pressure taken off, you know (even if I have 40 more to lose. I know I can do it now)? I like your "healthy lifestyle change a month" idea!!!!

Thanks! I'm just glad that I've found a method that works for me. I normally like very detailed lists, but keeping the goals unstructured has been more successful for me. Strange, but true.

Congrats on your weight loss! I'm impressed! Hopefully, I'll be as successful.

You will be as successful!!! So much of it is just eating healthy--I have to admit having no money to eat out really REALLY helped. And now my weight loss is stuck...so I am forced to workout LOL

What a great list. My husband has made a new year's resolution this year for the first time ever. He says we will be entertaining more in our home, which is a great idea, as far as I'm concerned.
As for my own resolution - getting up early every day, to develop a good routine. :)
